Three questions to Gabor Meszaros

What is fundamental in the relationship between teacher and student?

A good teacher must know how to empathize, it does not mean sympathizing with the student, but understanding what his or her character dynamics are, and not just analyzing the technical aspects. It is necessary to be able to understand when a student speaks from the heart and this - also based on the culture of origin - can happen with different attitudes that must be interpreted.

Do cultural differences affect teaching?

I have had and still have students from Switzerland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Hungary, South America, and China. There are certainly cultural differences, you just need to know how to grasp and interpret them. The fact that I speak Swiss German, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian and English allows me to communicate directly in the language of the student, and this makes everything easier. In addition, I have played and lived in different countries, and I have known different cultures.

How can you become a great musician?

You have to know how to expand your repertoire, and in order to get this you have to know how to interpret it. To achieve this, it is necessary to work on the details in order to reach full control on them. This is the way how you can convey emotions and feelings through an interpretation. Music is accuracy and precision, and the feelings must be conveyed with the flow and the rhythm, they are not in the individual notes.
